First Steps in Taiwan 落地與初抵達指南

📱 SIM Cards & Internet 通訊與網路 Taiwan has excellent mobile coverage. Upon arrival, GPIS will guide you through applying for a student-friendly SIM plan so you can stay connected with family right away. 台灣擁有極佳的網路覆蓋率。入學初期，我們將指引你申辦適合外籍學生的電信方案，確保你隨時能與家人報平安。

🪪 Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) 居留證申辦 Your ARC is your official ID in Taiwan — you need it for banking, healthcare, and more. The International Office and GPIS team will walk you through the required documents and accompany you to the National Immigration Agency. ARC 是你在台灣的身分證明，後續開戶與健保都需要它。國際處與系辦將協助文件檢核並引導你前往移民署辦理。

🏥 Healthcare & Insurance 醫療與保險 Before qualifying for National Health Insurance (NHI), the school helps you enroll in international student medical insurance. Once eligible, you'll enjoy Taiwan's world-class, affordable NHI. The campus Health Center and Counseling Center are always available for your physical and mental well-being. 符合投保資格前，學校協助投保境外學生醫療險；符合資格後全面納入健保，享有便利且平價的醫療。校內亦設有健康中心與心理諮商中心，隨時守護你的身心健康。

Tip 提示： Getting your ARC first is the key — it unlocks NHI enrollment, bank account opening, and more. GPIS will guide you through it during orientation week.
盡早申辦居留證是關鍵的第一步，它將開啟健保投保、銀行開戶等後續手續的大門。GPIS 將在新生說明週協助你完成。

Your City, Your Campus 台北生存指南：食衣住行

EasyCard (悠遊卡) Your must-have card in Taiwan. Use it on the MRT (metro), city buses, and even convenience stores. Top it up at any station or 7-Eleven. 台灣的必備神卡！可搭乘台北捷運（MRT）與公車，也可在便利商店消費。捷運站或 7-Eleven 均可儲值。

YouBike (微笑單車) Public bikes available everywhere around campus and the city. Perfect for short trips and exploring the neighborhood — link your EasyCard to get started. 隨處可見的公共自行車，短程通勤與探索城市的好幫手。綁定悠遊卡即可騎乘。

Bus to City Center 前往市區 Soochow's Waishuangxi campus is a tranquil hillside retreat, yet only a short bus or MRT ride from Shilin, Tianmu, and central Taipei. 東吳外雙溪校區環境清幽，搭乘公車或捷運短暫車程即可抵達士林、天母及台北市區。

On-Campus Dormitory (Year 1 Guaranteed) 第一年保障校內宿舍 First-year GPIS students are guaranteed a dormitory spot — a safe, convenient, and social environment to start your Taiwanese life. (From year 2 onward, spots depend on the university's annual allocation.) 第一年保障入住校內宿舍，安全便利，也是結交各國朋友的好地方。第二年起名額依學校當年度公告為準。

Off-Campus Housing 校外租屋 Popular areas include Shilin and Dazhi, both well-connected to campus. The Student Housing Center provides rental safety guidelines and basic assistance for students looking off campus. 士林、大直等周邊地區交通便利。若選擇校外租屋，學生住宿中心可提供租屋安全須知與基本協助。

Note 備註： All first-year students are encouraged to live on campus to ease your transition. Off-campus options are plentiful and affordable from year 2.
建議第一年住宿舍以利適應環境。第二年起可依需求選擇校外租屋，選擇多元且生活機能佳。

Campus Cafeterias 校內學生餐廳 Soochow offers multiple on-campus dining options at student-friendly prices — from Taiwanese set meals to noodles and snacks, all within easy walking distance. 東吳校內設有多元學生餐廳，供應平價台式套餐、麵食及點心，步行即可抵達。

Shilin Night Market 士林夜市 Just a 10-minute ride away, Shilin is one of Taipei's most famous night markets. Enjoy braised pork rice, beef noodles, bubble tea, and dozens of local street foods. 搭車 10 分鐘即可抵達士林夜市，品嚐道地的滷肉飯、牛肉麵、手搖飲等各式台灣美食。

Convenience Stores 便利商店 7-Eleven and FamilyMart are open 24/7 and offer hot meals, ATMs, printing, parcel pickup, and bill payment — an essential part of daily life in Taiwan. 7-Eleven 與全家便利商店 24 小時營業，提供熱食、ATM、列印、包裹取件與繳費等服務，是台灣生活的必備利器。

Open a Bank Account 銀行開戶指南

After receiving your ARC, GPIS will help you prepare the required documents to open an account at the on-campus post office or a nearby bank (e.g., Chunghwa Post). Essential for scholarship disbursements and international transfers.
取得居留證後，GPIS 將協助你前往校內郵局或鄰近銀行（如中華郵政）辦理開戶，方便領取獎學金或接收生活費匯款。

Digital Payments 數位支付

Cashless living is the norm for students in Taiwan. Link a digital wallet (LINE Pay, Apple Pay, etc.) to pay at convenience stores, restaurants, and night markets with just your phone.
台灣大學生非常習慣無現金生活！下載並綁定數位錢包，在便利商店、餐廳或夜市只要帶手機即可輕鬆結帳。
